DataStor NAS Appliances provide a robust, open storage platform that can be tailored to optimize any IT environment, providing a variety of storage interface and drive technologies including SCSI, Fibre Channel and SATA. DataStor NAS Appliances manage NAS resources of any size with a total capacity of 128 TB of NAS storage per DataStor appliance.
Based on its centralized management of storage and suite of data protection services, DataStor NAS is the perfect data protection engine for data centers and distributed computing environments. From the XFS journaling file system to its innovative and efficient Snapshot, mirroring, replication and third party backup acceleration options, DataStor NAS provides comprehensive data protection and rapid data recovery.
KEY FEATURES
Support for CIFS/SMB and NFS file sharing protocols
Snapshots provide data rollback to restore files, folders or entire volumes and supports 32 point-in-time images
Snapshot Agents quiesce host-based database applications, e-mail applications and file systems to ensure the delta changes are captured
Data mirroring options allows duplicate data to exist across two storage devices - Supports both synchronous and asynchronous modes - Can also be used for seamless data migration
Data replication options offer efficient delta-based (changes only) data copy over IP networks to one or more remote sites for effective disaster recovery
Active-Active DataStor Clusters for High Availability Deployments
iSCSI Option offers an efficient way to provision file and block level storage over IP networks
Full Active Directory and Network Information Services (NIS) Integration for authentication and automatic provisioning of user shares and quotas

DataStor Features and Options:
Snapshot Service with 32 Delta-Based Snapshots - The Snapshot Service option creates up to 32 delta-based snapshots of designated disks based on an administrator-defined policy. Administrators can quickly recover files or volumes by mounting a delta snapshot as an active volume. Snapshot images can be used to provide immediate access to data by mounting a temporary "view" of the snapshot, or to create a permanent copy of the snapshot. The Snapshot Service option integrates with application-specific Snapshot Agents to ensure transactional integrity and point-in-time consistency.
IP Trunking for Increased Bandwidth & Availability - IP Trunking ensures non-stop availability of the DataStor NAS Server by pinpointing network bottlenecks and physical/logical faults and instantly rerouting network traffic around these faults. Peak performance is also enhanced by load balancing, the automatic distribution of NAS Server traffic among the server's storage paths.
Active-Active Failover for HA NAS Solutions - Facilitates high availability. Automatic failover configuration uses two DataStor NAS Engines that can monitor each other's health. Should one DataStor engine fail, the other automatically assumes the failed appliance's workload.
LockSmart Technology - LockSmart Technology guarantees that only authorized code can run on the DataStor NAS. This unique approach ensures no unauthorized individuals or programs can gain control of your critical information or communication systems, preventing hackers, worms, and virus intrusions. With LockSmart Technology in place, IT departments remain in control of updates, system patches and other system maintenance duties.
Replication Agents - Protects host-based systems and end-user workstations by enabling them to replicate their local individual files, directories, or disks to a DataStor NAS Appliance for centralized backups and recoveries.
Snapshot Agents for Databases, Mail Servers and File Systems - Snapshot Agents are used by the Snapshot Service to quiesce host-based database applications, e-mail applications and file systems to ensure the delta changes are captured with transactional integrity and point-in-time accuracy.
Synchronous Mirroring - Protects against the consequences of storage device/channel failure by providing fault-tolerance for DataStor NAS storage volumes. The failure protection of RAID storage systems is greatly enhanced by DataStor’s ability to mirror across expansion modules. Since is has been designed to satisfy the demand for non-stop, 24x7 operations, the mirroring option can be used to migrate data between disks with no downtime.
IP-Based Replication for Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity - Allows fast, data synchronization of storage volumes from one DataStor NAS Appliance to another over the IP network, for automated off-site data protection and disaster recovery. All replicated data is written to a reserved area and is only committed to the replica disk after all of the data from the primary appliance has been received, thereby guaranteeing the integrity and usability of the replicated data. Replication works with the Snapshot Group feature which allows drives to be grouped for snapshot synchronization purposes. This option also integrates with DataStor’s Snapshot Agents to ensure transactional integrity.
Direct Backup for Centralized Network Backups - Dramatically increases the speed of block-level backups while using backup software running directly on the DataStor NAS. By offloading backup processing from application servers and the LAN, the backup window is eliminated, backup management is centralized, and there is no need for administrators to deploy and manage backup software at each application server. Direct Backup allows the backup software to perform full, incremental, or differential, image backup/restore operations. This option integrates with DataStor's Snapshot Agents to ensure transactional integrity and point-in-time consistency of active databases and messaging stores during backup.
