The FibreXpac™ 16000 Serial ATA-to-2 Gigabit Fibre Channel RAID was designed to be the most powerful and versatile Fibre Channel RAID solution on the market. Featuring 8 fully independent 2 Gb Fibre Channel connections, dual special purpose processors, a high speed multi-channel bus architecture, capacities up to 313 TeraBytes, and choice of single or dual Active-Active RAID controllers, the FibreXpac 16000 RAID moves data from drive to desktop faster than any other controller.
The advanced design of the FibreXpac 16000 accelerates RAID operations, improves read and write performance and maximizes data throughput. The 8 independent channels enable you to put the bandwidth where you need it addressing host or disk side bottlenecks. Add to this the true "no single point-of-failure" Active-Active dual RAID controller configuration, the FibreXpac 16000 RAID delivers unprecedented levels of confidence and worry-free operation to storage managers.
For data availability, the FibreXpac 16000 RAID offers multiple RAID levels assignable by LUN to optimize performance across a variety of applications. The flexibility of 8 independent Fibre Channels facilitates a wide selection of enhanced availability configurations using channel redundancy, cross enclosure RAID groups and multiple drive/channel redundancy schemes. This controller performs active monitoring of all subsystem components including power supplies, fans, disks, Fibre Channels, temperatures, and UPS. It also includes automatic drive failure detection and repair, hot swap detection and reconstruction, user defined sparing policies and controlled shutdown in the event of a UPS failure.
But this is only half the story. More importantly, because the FibreXpac 16000 RAID is so powerful, versatile, scalable and reliable, it can be used in a wide variety of applications and environments. It can be configured for the extremes in performance or the limits of scalability, and everything in between, while still delivering superior fault tolerance.
To simplify system configuration and management, the FibreXpac 16000 RAID comes with a powerful, yet flexible embedded RAID manager. With FibreXpac's RAID manager, there is no software to purchase or install -- it is ready to run out of the box -- which significantly speeds deployments of any size and configuration. Simply attach an Ethernet cable to the FibreXpac 16000's 1U RAID Controller, and use a browser from any network location to easily initialize, configure, monitor and maintain the FibreXpac 16000 RAID using an ultra intuitive user interface.
The RAID manager also offers multiple security levels, proactive email alerts and an on-controller front panel VFD (Vacuum Fluorescent Display) to provide storage managers with increased control, flexibility and visibility. This multi-format management approach enables users to easily create and modify RAID configurations, define individual LUN characteristics and their caching parameters, receive alert notifications, and add new drives without interrupting operation. Best of all, the RAID manager is so easy to use, no special training or skills are necessary to manage even the most sophisticated configurations.
16-Bay Serial ATA-to-2Gb Fibre Channel Drive Enclosures
Each set of 16 Serial ATA disk drives is housed in an ultra high-density 3U Serial ATA to 2-Gigabit Fibre Channel JBOD subsystem designed for the growing storage industry where increasing capacity exceeds available rack space. This ultra high density combined with the 2-Gigabit/second Fibre Channel architecture makes the FibreXpac 16000 RAID an ideal solution for HDTV, video streaming, data warehousing, and many other applications that require large amounts of capacity and performance.
Designed to meet the challenge of today's high-capacity storage demands, the FibreXpac 16000 RAID blends Fibre Channel technology with cost-effective SATA. Each drive enclosure's controller has two 2Gb/second host channels that are routed through two onboard hubs to four external SFP connections, two per channel. While two SFP connectors can be connected directly to the FibreXpac 16000's 8-channel RAID controller(s), the remaining two connectors can be cascaded to an expansion FibreXpac 16000 drive enclosure. A total of seven 16-bay drive enclosures can be cascaded to each channel for unprecedented scalability of up to 313 TeraBytes.
Featuring a 64-bit 133MHz memory bus, the unparalleled bandwidth make the FibreXpac 16000 drive enclosure's high data throughput more than sufficient for small-to-medium sized servers or workstations. Data can be distributed at the burst rate up to 1066MB/second. The dual independent PCI bus design virtually eliminates all imminent bottlenecks on I/O traffic, providing sufficient throughput for a wide range of applications on workstations, Windows 2000/NT/XP, Linux, or Unix-based servers. These applications include disk-to-disk backup, Video on Demand, CCTV, stream editing and others.
The FibreXpac 16000 RAID's drive enclosures feature the same stiffness, rigidity, backplane, electrical and cooling technology found on our Enterprise-class full Fibre solutions. All the active components are hot-swappable including the power supply modules, cooling fan modules, and hard disk drives and trays. If any of these components fail, they can be replaced without turning off the FibreXpac 16000 RAID and disrupting the smooth operation of the storage system.
The FibreXpac 16000 RAID is an excellent choice for mission-critical applications. The FibreXpac 16000 RAID's scalable design makes expansion easy when storage needs increase. It is the ideal storage solution for applications requiring high data throughput, availability, and flexibility in configuration.
