Enterprise™ F16-HA Serial ATA to Fibre Channel RAID series are intelligent and innovative storage subsystems for mission critical and high bandwidth applications. Purpose-built for high volume, fail-safe data storage applications, the Enterprise F16-HA RAID combines unprecedented dependability with extreme scalability and superior performance.
Enterprise F16-HA RAID subsystems are equipped with dual redundant Serial ATA-to-2Gb Dual Loop Fibre Channel RAID controllers with transparent failover and failback functionality to ensure unprecedented data security. Two 2Gb/second Fibre Channel host channels on each controller module are routed through an onboard hub to four SFP ports of which two can connect to external host computers and two can connect to another Enterprise F16-HA RAID for expansion purposes.
The embedded hub on the host channels eliminates the need for a Fibre Channel switch when connecting to external host computers. An additional 2Gb/second Fibre Channel, connected to a drive expansion port, enables the Enterprise F16-HA RAID to connect to up to seven cascading FibreXpac 16000 JBODs.
The Enterprise F16-HA features RAID Cache battery backup modules with two Lithium-Ion battery cells on each RAID controller. Each battery backup module can sustain 1GB of cached data for up to 72 hours. With two redundant dual-fan cooling modules and two redundant 460 Watt power supply units, the Enterprise F16-HA RAID operates with unsurpassed reliability in today's most extreme storage environments.
Based on an architecture designed for the most demanding applications, the Enterprise F16-HA RAID is capable of very high levels of performance. Its 64-bit separate-bus backbone is built around dedicated XOR engines running at twice the data bus speed. The calculation of parity and distribution of data can be optimized with the free association between individual logical arrays and different optimization settings.
Featuring a 64-bit 133MHz memory bus, the unparalleled bandwidth makes the Enterprise F16-HA RAID's high data throughput more than sufficient for small-to-medium sized servers or workstations. Data can be distributed at a burst rate up to 1066Mbps. The dual-independent PCI bus design virtually eliminates all imminent bottlenecks on I/O traffic, providing sufficient throughput for a wide range of applications on workstations, Windows, Linux, or UNIX-based servers. These applications include disk-to-disk backup, video-on-demand, CCTV, and stream editing.
If two bad blocks occur on two member drives of the Enterprise F16-HA RAID's array, the integrity of the stored data is endangered. Intelligent drive handling functions handle low quality drives in both the degraded mode and during the rebuild process. For additional data security, other intelligent drive handling functions include the transparent resetting of hung hard drives, power-failure management, and bad-drive handling during Logical Disk expansion.
When a RAID controller detects the conditions that exceed the preset thresholds, the following actions will be initiated to protect the hardware:
Cached data will be automatically flushed and the array's caching mode will be switched from write-back to write-through.
If the conditions persist past a preset period of time, auto shutdown of the controller will commence.
Impressively, all the thresholds associated with this mechanism are user configurable and, once a subsystem manager restores the normal operating conditions, the caching mode will change back from the write-through mode to the write-back mode.
